Isla Mujeres is brimming with shops that carry an assortment of traditional items from all over Mexico. From handmade figurines made of seashells and thread, black pottery from Oaxaca, wooden masks, engraved glass ashtrays, and acrylic key chains, to complicated brightly-colored Mexican folk art, and sculptures of fantastical animal-like creatures called 'alebrijes' made of papier mache. A tour through the streets of Isla Mujeres is a must, almost as important as going snorkeling or sunbathing at Playa Norte.

In Downtown Isla Mujeres there are a number of jewelry stores selling unique pieces made of silver and gold from Guerrero, mostly from the small town of Taxco. Also there are numerous necklaces, bracelets and charms with inlaid patterns of jade or amber, created mainly in Chiapas.
