La Casa de las Artesanias (The Handcrafts House)

Handicrafts from all over the state are sold here, and there are also fairs, exhibitions, and expo-sales when the artisans of the state have workshops sell their products directly to the public. Since 1973, there has been a museum and gallery here, exhibiting works by some of the most outstanding artisans in Michoacan. They also try to keep the old colonial and pre-Hispanic techniques alive, through educational and hands-on projects and lectures. Before it was the House of Handicrafts, this beautiful old building was home to a convent and temple of San Francisco and is a "must stop" when out shopping in Morelia.

Los Portales

Any visit to Morelia would not be complete without a visit to Los Portales. Located in front of the city's Cathedral, you are guaranteed a lovely time, either in a cafe or a restaurant where you can sit down and watch the world pass by. Mercado de Dulces y Artesanias (Candy and Crafts Market)

At this quaint market you can find the most beautiful handcrafts, all of them made by the artisans from the indigenous communities of Michoacan, using ancient techniques. This picturesque market is also where you can try the whole range of delicious regional candies. It is located next to the Public Library, right in the historic heart of Morelia. 

This market offers all kinds of souvenirs, clothes, hammocks, leather items, paintings, and an incredible variety of candy. With the classic atmosphere of a Mexican market, this is by far the most authentic Mexican experience, you could have and without doubt the best option, when looking for that perfect souvenir of your trip to Morelia and Michoacan. Plaza Fiesta Camelinas is a traditional shopping mall, on one of the most important commercial avenues in Morelia, where many shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and clubs are located. Although the plaza isn't too big, it features a supermarket and a good selection of stores ranging from a bank branch to fast food franchises, traditional restaurants, fashionable clothing, footwear, technology and sportswear stores. Due to its traditional atmosphere and its convenient location, Plaza Fiesta Camelinas is an excellent option to visit with the entire family.
